I’m certain that will go quite swimmingly come this December.
i bought this for around 300 from buds gun shop a few years ago… then added the folding stock to it. its a mossberg 500 persuader. I use ti for home defense, but you can / could use it for truck gun status as well.
I would up going with the Mossberg Maverick 88 with the 20" barrel.
Thanks for all the input you all contributed.Loading... » KYGUNCO
Sweet. Congrats!
She purdy
Thanks
OK guys I’m back for another round of you fellas assistance. As mentioned above I bought the Mossberg Maverick 88 with the 20" barrel.
The wife has now informed me that she misses the pistol grip shotty I got rid of, It was a 18" barrel.
I’m thinking to save some coin that I’ll just buy a bird’s head grip to put on my 20".
HOLD THE PRESS… check out this YouTube video below.
Poor Man’s Shockwave… WOW ![]()
Well I think I’m sold unless you guys have any input that would sway my decision.
I just got the shockwave grip in last night.
I’m hoping it’s going to allow me to handle the recoil since I had carpal tunnel surgery. Said to reduce it by 90%
Sweet! I hope it works for you. It definitely makes a big difference on the Shockwave with how the recoil energy is directed -more into the mid-palm as a natural extension of the arm as opposed to a pistol grip that just slams violently into the hand. It’s hard to describe until you’ve experienced it. You still have to have a firm grip of course, but shouldn’t feel as beat up with the birds head. I will warn you to be careful about slippage in the hand. I can’t recall where the safety is at on the 88, but on the 590’s it’s top center just in front of the grip -meaning if you slip too much the safety could abrade or cut the webbing of your hand. Again, the slippage can be your friend in reducing felt recoil, but be mindful of this and reposition your hand as necessary. Note: I’ve only noticed this being an issue with heavier 00 Buck self defense shells.
90% is a pretty hefty claim.
The birds head does make a major difference, but IMHO it is really just a compliment to running lighter shells. You’ll have to play with different ones until you find what works and feels best.
The safety is forward of the trigger so no issues with it being on top. Another member recommended adding a lanyard which sounds like a good idea.
I watched a couple of videos of the 88 being fired with the birds head and I can see how you may be able to kind of let the grip glide through your hand a bit. So anyway I’ll figure it out, anything will be better than a 90% grip. Thanks again ![]()
Just watched this video. I disagree with his assessment about only being comfortable shooting from the hip. When he raises the weapon to eye level he’s holding it too close to his face and body. That contorts the wrist, which would be uncomfortable -making it more “pistol-grip-like”. When I fire from eye level I turn sightly to my weak side to extend both arms as far as possible. This establishes a much different feel on the grip hand conducive to the birds head that also helps with target acquisition -your head remains straight up/down not titled as it would be trying to attain cheek weld on a stock; and there’s a perceived longer sight radius. Granted you might not want do this in a home defense situation for risk of having the weapon knocked out of your hands, but HD tactics are a whole nother conversation. ![]()
Oh, one last thing! I do run this Pachmayr “Tactical Glove” (they call it?) on all my birds head grips. For my tastes it strikes the right balance between slip and grip:
I saw that and thought it would be a good idea but then I thought about stippling the grip.
Have you tried that by chance?
If not I’ll buy the glove
I have not. But I recall someone (Black Aces Tactical, maybe?) having myriad options to buy the whole grip with custom cuts akin to stippling. They were awful spendy, which led me to the glove as an alternative.
Does the grip you got have a lanyard loop in the base like the one in the pachmayr link?
No but I’m going to drill through and add one since some smart fella on here recommend it
.
The new version of the grip comes with a removable plug on the end to access the bolt.
