I wish PSA would produce an option for their AK builds that omits the side rail, i.e for 104s that have a railed top cover. I’ve never been a fan of the side rail and would live to have this option from PSA!
Buy a PSA Type 56 or an underfolder. Those models do not have optic mount.
That’s all well and good, but I’d really like a 104 without the side rail. …
If they did that someone would complain that it wasnt a 104.
its funny, cause when i first got into AK’s i had really wanted the scope mount rial on my ak’s, but i didnt have it on the kit that i had bought and didnt know enough about being able to add it. now that PSA has it almost standard on every AK they make, folks are like, the opposite, and want it to be not on the AK itself. I get it though especially if you’re already having a aftermarket top cover with a rail on it.
Perhaps PSA will make the 104 one day without it. but for now, i dont think they do at all as one of thier models. the rail is not something that is easily removed either, and would take a true gunsmith familiar with and having the proper jigs to not only remove the rivits that hold it on, but be able to re-rivit the ak afterwards. all we can do is pass the word to PSA proper and see that they have notice of folks wanting the option of having the rail or not having the rail.
I’m new to AK’s and mounted a side rail scope mount. It’s on solid and I’ve took it off and put back on a few times and it appears that the front of the scope mount is lower than the rear of it (angled downward and not parallel with the barrel). Eyeballing it, it seems the rail mount on the receiver is installed at the wrong angle. Is this the way it should be on an AK? Is it a PSAK thing? Or it a random occurrence?
Need a picture please. They use a jig to install so there really is no way to get it messed up.
im a little bit confused.. the side mount scope mounts are generally rivited on, so i didnt know you could take them off and put them back on again without riviting and grinding them off.. etc.. photos would help… but the fact they’re rivited on means they go where the guns rivets go, which pretty much makes it only go on one way.. so there is no way to make it not be right if that makes sense.
He meant the mount on the receiver is angled. He removed the scope mount that attaches via QD to the receiver mount.
oh. the mount on the receiver is that way cause of the way its designed though. the mount you buy to mount to that level everything out. then on top of that extra mount, you’re golden.
The bottom of the AK receiver is angled upwards. Its an optical illusion. The rail is mounted on pre-punched rivet holes on the sheet metal receiver. Designed that way so the soviet unskilled assembler could not mess the thing up.
I have a 3 foot level and a 6 inch level. I’m going to use the levels and if I’m seeing things wrong, the levels will verify it. If the levels say I’m not seeing things wrong and the rail mount is angled downward then I’ll take a photo and post it. Thanks.
