Starting a new topic so the AR picture thread doesn’t get too off topic.
Those of you who keep your slings on your long guns 24/7, what options do you use to keep it stowed effectively where you can still deploy it quickly if necessary? I have all my slings on QD mounts or hooks so I can attach them quickly and easily, but I don’t like leaving them on in the safe because they take up extra space and get caught on everything else.
I have a velcro band with a second strap on a magnet which does the quick deploy well, but I don’t find it strong enough to hold slings in place as well as I want it to, and the band itself doesn’t secure tightly enough to handguards or stocks.
Seen some guys say to use rubber bands, but that doesn’t seem like a great option.
I prefer Sheriff of Baghdad slings and they each come with one of their combat bands. Just put it around the buffer tube or the front of your stock/brace and fold the sling into it. They now have a bigger version also. https://sobtactical.com/combat-bands/
I’ve attempted this, but in order to pull it off I need to leave all the slings too long for proper fit on me. At my optimal length it won’t reach the pistol grip.
It’s also not something I can do on traditional stocks, like my Mini-14 and pump shotties.
Big fan of Sentry Straps. They’re a little more than the other options, but work really well. The rubber band, aka ranger bands, I find never work right except as offline stowage. But then again so does a Ziploc bag for that
Ive done this in the past. this was the way that i usually had stored my slings because i keep them attached to my rifles. be they my favorite of Magpul ms4 slings or any other sling. I found the Magpul MS4’s are much easier to do this with versus other slings… which brings me to the other issue… not all slings can wrap around the rifle for storage temporarily in any easy way… so…
i’ve gone to this way with the other slings… especially since many are in fact Sherrif of Baghdad slings. I’ve found that their combat bands are particularly helpful for doing this and thus make it a lot easier to deploy too.
traditional stock wise i just have it wrapped up as easily as possible and as tight as possible, and then wrap that sling with a SOB combat band or if i have none of his, i use those caliber dentoation bands i have bought a ton of from amazon. they work much the same like a rubber band almost.
So I decided to just expand out my shotgun length and AK length slings a bit and keep them stowed tied around the grip as they aren’t guns I need to be ready to go, so it’s not that big of a deal if I have to take 30 seconds upon getting them out to tighten up the slop a bit to fit me better:
Good thread. I’ll add later. I’m in my infancy of what I want/prefer. So still swaping things and trying different stuff… Because, I did very recently kick myself in the rear and go with the “sling for every rifle” after several suggestions from ya’ll on here.
Previously I would have each rifle set up for “a” sling. But I only used about two or three slings and just attached it to the rifle I was going to use for the day. Now each and every one is getting a sling attached to it.
thats good you’re putting one on each rifle. i’ve always felt that a rifle isnt a rifle without a sling. not only do you ne3ed it to carry it around, but you need it to stabilize the rifle in different shooting positions where you do not have a wall, wood, bean bag, whatever to lean the rifle on to shoot at someone with.
Watch the Kyle Rittenhouse videos if you still can. God forbid any of us end up in that situation but you would not have a rifle without a sling after seeing it.
Forward Control Design sells a couple of versions. I bought a bit of 3mm shock cord, and a pack of each of these whatsits, and make my own. Sling is Vickers, w/HK clip. I reduced clip rattle with black self-adhesive wrap, because no one makes it in Stealth Grey.
