I just got my AKV in and noticed that when I press the magazine release, I have to firmly remove the magazine. With my ARV the magazine just drops out of the mag well.
I was wondering if anyone else has or had this problem and if so how did they fix it?
Thank
Thanks LMc, but I thought that the AKV magazines were supposed to just drop out when you press the release (like my ARV does), but when I got off of work today I went to my brother’s and checked out his AKV and the release is the same as on his. I wanted to make sure mine was operating correctly before I started modifying it.
I changed out the magpul foregrip to the metal PSA one. I also changed the trigger to the ALG one. They didn’t have the AKV version I wanted in stock when I ordered.
Mine drop free fine when the gun is cold, like when I’m just sitting at the house. When it gets heated up the mags stick. I took some 600 grit sandpaper and lightly sanded the pad on the front of the mag as well as the sides just a little
A few of my wife’s mags in her AKV would stick and not drop free. I did the same trick, just filing a little until the mags would drop free when empty.
Just got my AK-V today and experiencing very tight mag well. I have to force the mags in and out. They don’t drop free. I literally have to pry them out of the well. bolt open bolt closed doesn’t matter. Do these get inspected before they ship out? Disappointing initial experience.
They do get inspected and test fired before shipping. I’ll reach out to our QC department about the issue so they can look into what’s happening on their end. I recommend reaching out to our Customer Service Department about getting yours checked out. Do you have more than one mag to try this with? If not, it’s possible the AK-V came with a bad magazine. But it is also possible the magwell is not to the correct spec and our Test Fire missed it by using worn mags.
Fellow akv owner here. I have 10 mags. Only a few of them drop free from the mag well, but they all lock in and come out just fine. You may want to try what others have suggested and sand/file the front tab a little bit to see if that helps.
Thanks Josh. I have three additional mags on order but they haven’t arrived yet. Suppose I will wait and test those when they get here. Hopefully its just a bad mag. It is a great looking firearm.
Chris, thanks for the reply. I was hoping to avoid doing any sort of sanding or filing on a brand new set up but may have to on this mag. I have three more on the way to test…fingers crossed!
I’ve noticed Scorpion mags and AKV mags should stay in their own guns, the tighteness/looseness isn’t great when swapped. My AKV mags come out with ease from the mag well but I’ve only been running a couple mags at the range.
just received my AK-V. Same issue. Two mags and both are extremely tight. I will sand them and fix this but I really wish they were dropping free since the firearm has been through a few iterations at this point. many online videos show them dropping free out of the box.
