The Forward Controls Design REF, is a 6 position, AR15/M4 standard carbine receiver extension. Made from impact extruded 7075 aluminum with rolled threads and dry film lubed interior, REF differs from most carbine receiver extensions:

Additional drain holes in the 2nd and 5th latch positions, in addition to the TDP spec drain hole at the end of the tube.
Laser engraved stock latch position indicators on both sides.
Cerakoted.

Most modern, improved rifle stocks such as the popular B5 SOPMOD, Magpul SL-S and VLTOR IMOD have an integrated butt pad, that do not have an open portion like you would find on a Colt M4 stock, where water would drain from hole in the back of the receiver extension. This is where the drain holes in the 2nd and 5th latch positions come in to play, allowing water to easy drain with the use of these styles of stocks. REF's stock latch position indicators are located at 3 and 9 o'clock on the receiver extension. This allows users to easily and quickly identify the latch position of their stocks.

NOTE:

REF is a standard carbine receiver extension, it is not compatible with the Vltor A5.
REF is made from 7075 impact extrusions. They may have minor imperfections that are mostly invisible once the stock is installed.
