Is this barrel 16” including the a2 flash hider, therefore more like 15” of barrel and 1” of flash hider, or is it 16” of true length not including the flash hider, making it more like 17” in overall length?

Can't be beat for the price
By far my favorite upper that palmetto offers. Cannot be touched for the price. I have a few of the CHF uppers, and like this one the most.

Better than expected
This is part of my first AR build. I pinned it to an Anderson Manufacturing stripped lower and a PSA Magpul MOE lower build kit SKU 598. At 50 yards using Lake City 5.56 and a Vortex Strikefire 2x dot scope I could shoot 1.5" diameter groups. I was pleasantly surprised since that was as good or better than using the same ammo/optic on a Sig Sauer 516 Patrol which costs three times as much. The trigger is nothing to write home about but the gas tube seemed to be correctly installed. The unit is lighter than I expected. I had no problems of any description. I have no idea if the price is or is not a good deal but it works well.

Light and accurate
I have been impressed with this barrel & Upper. It is a Light weight tack driver. Making carrying the rifle and shooting it a pleasure compared to other AR's I own weighing about a pound plus more. Its now my favorite AR setup. Glad I spent the extra money.

Purchased this upper two Friday's ago and received it along with my lower yesterday and I must say I'm blown away! This is my 3rd palmetto build and every time they always show outstanding quality that you would expect from $1000-$1200 colts! All parts have been without flaws and functioned 100% including the blemished carry handle now on this 3rd rifle! This upper was so nice and lite and even had a bonus I didn't expect with it which was the premium BCG! Thanks for a wonderful birthday gift PSA!

PSA 16" CHF Lightweight Midlength 5.56: Another Unbeatable Low Cost/High Value Option from PSA
I am shocked that this product page has not yet exploded with rave reviews in the past several months since I purchased this upper. I normally wait longer to post reviews but wanted to dispel any suspicion among potential buyers that this deal is "too good to be true". A value like this does not come along every day.

I purchased this upper receiver in July 2015 and paired it with a $130 PSA complete blem lower. I had purchased a PSA 16" CHF Pencil SSK 12" upper the previous February and was so thrilled with the build quality and reliability that I could not resist buying another lightweight upper from PSA. At a price point several hundred dollars below a Colt 6920 and even below most commercial-spec entry-level rifles the components in this upper surpass virtually every competing product below the $1000 threshold (for a complete rifle) and probably even beyond that. The receiver BCG charging handle front sight base and muzzle device are all mil-spec. Even better the CHF barrel on this upper is designed to be lighter and more durable than mil-spec/govt barrel profiles from other brands with no discernible decrease in accuracy versus any standard chrome-lined barrel.

By no means an AR-15 expert or a high-round-count shooter I find the quality of this product to be obvious. It is just as accurate with bulk 5.56 as any other barrel easily delivering 2 MOA at 100 yards from a bench. Having fired several hundred rounds through this upper as well as ~1200 through the free-float pencil-barreled version mentioned above I have noticed no major differences in accuracy reliability or heat transfer to the handgun and not a single malfunction. I have fired brass- and steel-cased ammo 5.56 and .223 50 gr. through 69gr. all with flawless function.

I know a lot of first time buyers may be unfamiliar with “pencil” or "lightweight" barrel profiles and worry that this profile will negatively affect the barrel's accuracy longevity and heat transfer to the handguard. My limited experiences as well as the majority of research I have come across online indicate that these concerns are unfounded. The long-term effects of firing tens of thousands of rounds through a lightweight barrel are likely negligible compared to a standard profile. The decreased weight out front is a benefit that is undeniable probably shaving 5-6 oz off of the total weight of the rifle. The barrel is the heart of this upper and its profile is a crucial component in the overall value of this product.

Buy with confidence.

Of course it's good.
I mean what's not to like about this upper assembly? You have mid-length assembly with a CHF barrel made here in Cola-Town(Columbia SC) at FN Manufacturing which is the same plant that the majority of our military's arms are made such as M4's SCAR's M249's among many others along with many different firearms sold to the public like your FN pistols etc etc. Of course the barrel is great. The BCG is also excellent. Assembled and fired my AR the first time the other day. Put 230 rounds threw it without a single hiccup and it ejects the spent cartridges in a very tight group. It's very accurate out the box. I mounted my PSA carry handle on it and I don't want to adjust anything as it's hitting pretty much were I'm aiming at 75/100 yard. If anything it might be shooting slightly to the left at that range so I might try adjusting my rear sight a little but it's so minuet that I really don't want to mess with it. I'm very happy with this purchase. Quality price and value all deserve 5 stars. PSA is good people to do business with.

CHF pencil barrel with mid-length gas - best truck rifle upper ever.
I expected the barrel on this upper to be great because it is a CHF FN barrel. The barrel is far from broken in yet but was better than 2 MOA capable (sustained fire from pedestal rest) with non-premium M193 ammo using a single-point sight (EO Tech) at 100 yards. Very little POI shift from cold to hot which is impressive for a pencil barrel. This is good real-world accuracy from a .625" barrel and I expect it to improve as the very thick chrome lining galls in. The real surprise was the premium bolt carrier which resists powder fouling better than most of my phosphatized bolt carriers. This is one of the best lightweight uppers a person putting together a patrol rifle or TEOTWAWKI rifle could choose and I own a great lightweight CMMG that has been my go-to lightweight carbine until now. This one may replace the CMMG as the go-to lightweight due to its lower felt recoil thanks to the mid-length gas system. I may buy an extra gas tube as mid-length tubes aren't a normal GI part. PSA shipped this immediately and it performs flawlessly with M193 M855 and 69 gr. (3 gun match) ammunition. No FTE/FTF problems of any kind and bolt/chamber cleaned up easily and quickly. I am stunned by the high quality for the price as a long time AR owner who has had some very good Bushmaster (pre-Rem.) Colt Rock River and CMMG rifles. I'm not sure I'll buy anything but PSA in the future. Thank you PSA!
