Will the AR9 function without the buffer tube?
Nathan on Nov 3, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Blowback requires an equal and opposite force to counteract the force exerted on the bolt by the fired round. It will not be possible to build a blowback 9mm AR without including a buffer. With the requirement to retain the buffer it will be impossible to build an AR without a buffer tube
My Gen 1 held open on the last round Once with a Magpul magazine. I did not study to see why, because I thought I had discovered a new feature.

Best Quality AR9 for the Price!!!
If you like the AR platform, but not want to spend the money on ammo, then the PSA AR-9 is for you! It is a quality pistol that is well made. I already put over 300 rounds through it with no issues. Love it!!

It was out of stock so I had them notify me when the item was available. It was a short time before they had the item ready to ship.I have only had time to sight it in but expect no problems with this design.

PSA knocked it out of the park again!
Thank you PSA!! lol.

1 it reliable. it’s a blowback operated gun which and Normally very reliable but PSA has nailed it again and given us a very reliable and consistent shooting 9 mm AR.

2 it’s accurate I’m using a site mark for MOE red dot and at 15 m quick aiming I’m able to almost hit a bull’s-eye every time. If I take my time and aim I’m able to keep it in a 1 in square.

3 easy of use.The PSA uses Glock mags and eats cheap wolf ammo to gold not 147 +p ammo. it easy to clean and like all are easy to modify.

5 fun. i can’t believe how much fun i and my wife have shooting this. the recoil it low and ammo cheap and the mag changes fun. we can spend hours at the range to mag change drill and fast shoot

5 the only con The magwell could be a little bit more beveled in the mega release has a pretty sharp 90° on it and if you put the magazine in a little bit on an angle the lips of the magazine will get caught on the mega release and you’ll have to re-adjust to small thing and it’s a training issue that can easily be overcome
EDC storage area lol
fast shooting. all 6 targets in less then 2 seconds. hit two bulls,my wife and i took turns shooting
pew pew life
girls and guns
warning must have good supply of 9mm to feed this beast!!!

So far, So Good!
The Shockwave Pistol I received has been accurate and reliable with a variety of ammo from 115 grain to 150 grain. The only thing preventing a 5 Star rating is its lack of a bolt hold open feature after the last round of a magazine is fired.

Imperfect, but it is worth the price and as good many more expensive
I've been looking at this item for a couple of years. This year, the SHOT Show sale happened to coincide with me having the money.

Fit and finish are good. The charging handle scrapes some, but that will take care of itself pretty quick. It doesn't have the ambi safety that some of the PSA AR9 builds have (or had), but that is easy enough to fix.

I've put two hundred rounds of S&B 115gr FMJ, 50 of 124 Federal Champion, and 50 of 115gr Winchester White Box without issues. It did fail to feed on a 147gr Winchester Ranger JHP, but that is a big hollow and it was a magazine I've had for a while but I'm not sure if its ever actually been shot. That was the second round out of a five shot string, and the subsequent strings while testing this load all ran fine. So did some old Winchester Silvertip, truly ancient Hydrashocks, and some 135 Horandy Critical Duty.

Using Magpul BUIS (no red dot yet), I'm putting a hundred round multimag dump into a three-inch group at 50 yards. Considering they aren't loctited yet so may have needed to be retightened, and I was shooting for speed. Not amazing accuracy compared to say, an AR15 with glass and STOCK, but for a pistol without shoulder weld, just cheek, and without sling, for it's intended purposes (range fun, but it needs more testing to be classed as a PDW) it works.

That FTF might have been new mag. Might have been a matter of breaking it in. Might have just been it doesn't like heavy JHP.

Down sides...
-No bolt hold open. Oh, the horror. Whatever did everyone who ever carried an M1 carbine, an AK, a G3 or an MP5 ever do? I knew that going in. Not much of a downside.
-It doesn't have much of a feed ramp, so it might be ammo sensitive (needs more testing, but it's a damn fun range toy).
-One of the things I don't like is the magazine well could be beveled- that's a lot of metal, and there is no funnel. I'm tempted to rape the warranty and take a file to that. That cost it a half star.
-The magazine release bound up on me twice and didn't want to release, but I also didn't lube it prior to firing it for the first time. So time will tell.

Four starts, even at full price. Because all of those negatives I've seen happen with AR9s with a higher price. Compact, fun, and very accurate for what it is. Once it's broken in fully, say in another five hundred rounds, I might give it an extra half star.

High Quality Firearm
Great value. Well built and reliable weapon. Runs perfect with Glock 33 magazines.

Nice 9mm platform
Pretty nice setup, very light. Add a Sig Romeo5 red dot and shots on the money. The mag that comes with is ran fine...probably not the greatest but runs ammo like any other mag I own. Ordered some PMags for it and ran my Glock mags through it. Not one single miss fire. Great gun!

SWEET LIL PEW!
One of the best AR9 platforms. I have had zero issues with it. Would recommend it! Only draw back, comes with one magazine. Then again, you are getting a great product. Magazines for this are easy to get and affordable.
