RCBS gold medal match series reloading dies use self-centering, changeable neck bushings that allow reloaders to fine-tune bullet tension for improved case longevity and shot accuracy. By minimizing work hardening of the case neck brass, these bushings help extend the life of brass while enhancing performance. For the best results, high-quality brass with uniform neck thickness is essential. There are two methods for selecting the proper bushing size - either measure the outside neck diameter of a loaded round and subtract 0.002 - 0.003 inches to account for brass spring-back and achieve optimal neck tension or measure the case's neck wall thickness, double it, add the bullet's diameter, then subtract 0.001 inches. RCBS recommends keeping bushings one to two sizes above and below the ideal size on hand to allow for flexibility.
