102 years and untold billions of rounds of .45ACP after its introduction, American shooters, law enforcement and elite military units the world over still rely on the immortal 1911 to get the job done. In the mid 1980s, the US military began the process of retiring their old warhorse. In 1985, Springfield Armory in Geneseo, Illinois first offered newly manufactured 1911s to the gun buying public. The next 28 years firmly established Springfield Armory as the leading manufacturer of 1911s, and the standard by which all other 1911s are judged today.

Les C on May 10, 2019

New synthetic wooden grips will replace the cross cannon grips. the MSRP is significantly less than that of the original model.

Would recommend
Out of the box and 300+ rounds of 230gr. FMj down range not a hiccup. Purchased the tanker holster , for the price and quality makes a nice "ranch gun" keeps the wear off the colts and kimber.

Springfield 1911 Defender 45 ACP 5" Pistol
I just received my pistol today. I have not fired it yet. This review is mainly to fill in the blanks on some questions I have seen here. The pistol comes in a cardboard box. On the outside of my box it is labeled as NOT being on CA DOJ ROSTER. (very cool in my book!!) My pistol does NOT have the ILS Safety built into the mainspring backstrap. (another plus in my book) I do not see any markings that specifically say MADE IN USA but right above the SR# is stamped SI GENESEO IL USA. I assume this is a town in Illinois? Was the gun made there? Not sure. The magazine is all steel and only marked 45 ACP. The barrel is marked S.A..45AUTO. The Springfield Armory LOGO is nicely stamped on the right side of the slide. The parkerized finish is between a shade of light grey and black. Sort of a very dark grey. The front and rear sights have white dots. Dovetail rear site adjusts for windage only. No set screws present for either site. That is all I can think of to report at this time. I will try to upload some pictures.
3 white dot sights
No ILS Lock, only the take down access hole.
Cardboard Box (corrugated)
Not on California DOJ Roster
Right side view of the firearm (My SN marked out)

Good Gun but not a fan of the grips
As someone mentioned previously it definitely looks more like the old fashion 1911. My only complaint is the rough edge on the bottom of the grip. Going to order new grip today. other than the grip its a good gun for the money.

Best Purchase
I added a Wilson Combat 188B slip in mag well speed shoot and VZ g10 grips plus Wilson Combat 8 round magazines. It shoots and point of impact amazingly accurate with superb double taps. Performs just as good as my buddies Springfield Armory Fully Loaded and I have a great price thanks to Palmetto State Armory with free shipping.

Great gun!
It’s really black not gray, more of an old fashion 1911 with no extras. Right white sights, brown grip and dull black color. Trigger was good but not as good as a $1400 Springfield 1911, it has a small creep then a wall and a pretty crisp break. For the money you can’t beat it, this is going to be my beater gun, I’ll keep the high end 1911 in the safe.
