Manufactured by Colt under Browning patents from 1903 to 1945, the first series concluded in 1911 with serial number 72000. The second series, which ended in 1926 at serial number 105050, featured a reduced barrel length from 4 inches to 3-3/4 inches. The third model, concluding with serial number 572215, was distinct from the previous models as it lacked a barrel bushing and, starting from serial number 414896, included a magazine safety disconnector. Production of both calibers ceased in 1945. These firearms were widely distributed globally, with significant purchases made by the governments of the United States, the United Kingdom and China. Nearly 900000 units of the two calibers were produced.
