This reduction in drag results in flatter trajectories, less wind-drift and higher retained velocity compared to other bullets. The VLD is a popular choice for long-range shooters, with a preferred loading technique of touching the rifling for single-shot applications, although some rifles may perform better with up to .150 inches of jump from the rifling.
