Recent shifts in state-level firearm legislation and federal court rulings are rapidly changing the landscape for buying and shipping firearms. Whether you are tracking the Virginia assault weapon ban injunction, waiting on the 3rd Circuit Court mandate for New Jersey, or navigating Colorado's new SB25-003 permit rules, staying informed is essential.

Here is a breakdown of what the latest news and legal rulings mean for your orders.

Virginia: Statewide Injunction Pauses Firearm Ban

A major legal victory for Second Amendment advocates in Virginia has temporarily halted the state's newly enacted "assault firearm" and public carry restrictions. A Washington County judge recently ruled that a preliminary injunction originally blocking the ban will now apply statewide, opening the door for legal sales to resume.

What this means for your orders: Thanks to the state-wide injunction, we will resume processing and shipping affected firearms to Virginia. We will begin shipping these orders on July 21, 2026.

New Jersey: 3rd Circuit Strikes Down AR and Magazine Bans

On July 17, 2026, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit issued a landmark 10-5 en banc decision striking down New Jersey’s ban on popular semi-automatic rifles (such as the AR-15) and magazines holding more than 10 rounds. The court ruled that these firearms and standard-capacity magazines are in common use for lawful purposes and that banning them violates the Second Amendment.

What this means for your orders: The ruling is a massive step forward, but the legal process requires a final administrative step before sales can physically resume. We are currently allowing orders to be placed for New Jersey and we will fulfill and ship them the moment the 3rd Circuit's opinion is officially effective and shipment is legally permissible.

Colorado: New Semiautomatic Firearm Licensing (SB25-003)

Colorado residents are facing significant new purchasing hurdles due to the passage of SB25-003, which goes into effect on August 1, 2026. The new law strictly regulates the purchase of "Specified Semiautomatic Firearms," which includes Modern Sporting Rifles (MSRs), AR-platform firearms, and certain shotguns and handguns with detachable magazines.

If you are purchasing one of these firearms after the August 1 cutoff, you will now be required to:

Obtain a County Sheriff Permit: Pass a background check and pay state/local fees to acquire a purchasing permit.
Complete a State-Verified Safety Course: Pass a required in-person safety training course administered through Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW).

What this means for your orders: These new licensing hurdles are in addition to the state's existing restrictions, including a universal 15-round magazine capacity limit (in place since 2013) and a mandatory three-day waiting period. These new licensing requirements will apply unless you complete your purchase and standard 4473 transfer before the August 1 deadline.
