The Brownells checkering cradle significantly simplifies the checkering process. Two primary advantages of an effective checkering cradle include - 1) It enables the use of both hands and allows for the rotation of the stock while checkering across the pattern, maintaining the work area in the most comfortable and controlled position. This feature eliminates the cumbersome and challenging task of maneuvering around a stationary stock and ensures accurate pattern following from border to border. 2) It prevents the back-and-forth wobble that disrupts the cutting action of checkering tools. If the stock is not securely held, it will move with the cutter, causing the cutter to grab the stock and making it nearly impossible to achieve straight, even lines of uniform depth. The cradle is simple in design, cost-effective, constructed from durable wood and highly practical. It is adjustable to accommodate rifle stocks up to 33 inches in length (excluding Mannlicher-style stocks) and all shotgun stocks and forends. It holds the stock securely without damaging the finish, yet allows for rotation as work progresses. Additionally, it is convenient for stock inletting, sanding, staining and finishing. The cradle can be bolted directly to a bench or secured in a sturdy vise. It comes complete with all necessary holders, bolts and instructions.
