According to James B. Meek, author of the art of engraving, approximately 90% of all scroll work in engraving can be accomplished using the following tools - point graver No. 4 is suitable for cutting most scrolls, while fine details are best achieved with Point No. 0. Knife No. 2 is also recommended for detailed work. The square is perhaps the most versatile tool, as it can be sharpened to function as a point or a chisel. For lettering in high relief, Flat Nos. 36 and 37, as well as Round Nos. 50 and 54, are essential. The kit includes - point gravers Nos. 0 and 4; two GlenSteel blanks for the square; flat gravers Nos. 36 and 39; knife No. 2; and round gravers Nos. 50 and 54, totaling nine gravers.
