Features

Originally known as the "Improved Henry," the 1866 model introduced a patented loading gate on the side of the frame, designed by Winchester's plant superintendent Nelson King, along with a durable wood forearm. Native Americans called it the "Yellow Boy" due to its distinctive brass frame and it quickly became the first true cowboy lever action rifle. With its slab-sided design, it was well suited for carrying in a saddle scabbard, making it a trusted companion on the frontier. More than 170000 were produced between 1866 and 1898 and its popularity endured long after more powerful lever guns were introduced. The model 1866 earned worldwide fame, seeing action with the forces of Benito Juarez in Mexico, the Turkish army against the Russians and legendary figures of the American West, including Sioux Medicine Man Sitting Bull, Union Pacific chief engineer General Grenville Dodge and notorious outlaw Bill Doolin. Cimarron offers several 1866 Yellow boy models, including the 24 inches barreled Sporting Rifle, a 20 inches Short Rifle with an octagon barrel, round-barreled carbines such as the 19 inches saddle ring carbine, a brass tack-decorated 19 inches Indian carbine and the compact 16 inches Trapper model. Chambered in .45 Colt and .22LR, these rifles feature finishes such as Standard Blue, Charcoal Blue or Original Finish, depending on the selected model. A true Old West classic, the 1866 Yellow boy remains one of Cimarron's most iconic and historically significant firearms.

  • Features a brass receiver for a classic look and enhanced durability
  • Octagon barrel adds a distinctive look with improved rigidity and heat dissipation
  • Equipped with an adjustable rear sight for precise targeting
  • Side loading gate allows for quick and easy reloading without removing the magazine tube
