Anyone have any recommendations?
Really my only specs are 12 guage semi auto or pump action.

Stick with Mossberg or Remington
That would give you two different configurations.
I own a 20" Maverick 88 for my truck - UTV gun
@glockseth who makes the Maverick?
What Remington would you recommend?
Old man is right here son.
I asked a simple question that you refuse to answer. What Remington would you recommend?
I also use the Maverick 88. My only complaint is that Choate doesn’t show a side folding stock like the one on my Winchester. But for the money, it’s light weight and does what it’s designed to do. I did add this
And he calls you a keyboard Cowboy ![]()
This is funny. I just put a Maverick 88 in my shopping cart yesterday. Pondering the Maverick as my next purchase. It’s a great gun and I will get it, I’m just not sure if its my next purchase. Or a .45? Most likely it’ll be the Maverick before the .45
Anyways, its an awesome pump at a great price.
What exactly does this mean?
What’s your intended use case… off campus self-defense, hunting, competition? Every college I’m aware of won’t allow any type of firearm on campus or in the dorms. Meh, assume you know this already…
Not really sure what the dust up was all about here, but agree with @glockseth you can’t go wrong with a Mossberg or Remington shotty. FWIW, my preferences lean more toward just Mossberg pump action these days for self-defense.
As for specific models I’d suggest the Mossberg 590 line or Remington 870 (an old 887 if you can find one). Again, assuming you’re asking about use in off campus self-defense.
If you’re looking for something that comes ready for lights and optics.
WIN SXP EXTREME DEF 12GA 3`` FDE 18``??wk
Mossberg 88. It’s a proven Workhorse and reliable as can be right out of the box, no need to upgrade anything. Under $300 bucks, and will work every time you need it too.
College budget really just means affordable to someone who doesn’t bring in enough money to buy something fancy like a Bennelli
Well I could buy a Benelli
Or Beretta
Or a whole bunch of 88s
While I value quality, quantity is important too
I’m soooo happy I am NOT on a “college budget”. If I wanted another defensive type shotgun it would probably be a 590A1 retro.
You might look into the Mossberg or Remington pumps that you can change the barrel - short (for home defense) and long . It seems that one of them is real easy to change. I have a Stoeger m3500 bought about 7 years ago and like it a lot, but they’ve gone up in price quite a bit. It was on the recommendation of an old boss - he said it was a “poor man’s” Benelli
Might check that if you have some curiosity about it.
