Dagger and Falling Mags

I hate to be skeptical, but this mag dropping issue was reported by owners a LONG time ago, and I keep seeing people saying, “yeah, was just a small % of Daggers affected - all good now” but here it is June 2022 and there’s still new buyers having this problem that report it on this forum or other gun forums. I was told in Feb. 2022 that my Dagger dropping mags was “an isolated batch of barrels problem” yet here it is 4 months later and people are still having problems? Man I really want to believe it is fixed because for the price I’d love to get another Glock-mag compatible G19 clone, but my experiences with the one I bought make me wonder every time I bring it to the range if something else is going to crop up. Yesterday took it to the range and not only is my trigger pin still walking out (after a replacement one from PSA), but my front sight came totally loose. Yup, easy fix with a glock tool and some loctite, but that kind of stuff shouldn’t happen - especially when you see LOTS of owners reporting the same problems: walking trigger pins, mags dropping out while shooting, front sights coming loose, mag releases that are stupid stiff…

It was a small percentage. PSA has sold tens of thousands of daggers and i personally know of no one that has had the issue. Yes, folks have posted on here and other forums, but it is a small issue. Did a few guns perhaps slip through the cracks? Maybe. I dont know. But they have fixed the issue and all new manufactured daggers dont have the issue.

how do you know that for a fact? do you work for PSA’s quality control department? (serious question - I have no idea who you are)
And by “all new manufactured daggers don’t have the issue” - what’s your definition of “new” because I’m seeing posts here and elsewhere from late May 2022 (a month ago) that it’s still happening.

I do not work for PSA but as a moderator here i am in contact with PSA employees.

As for it still happening…

People buy guns and dont shoot them right away. Here is an example using an AK. Neglect

I know @GamecockOperator got his Rock 5.7 a month ago and hasnt shot it yet. The issue has been fixed and was with a very small percentage of guns.

Yep. I got my dagger last week too and still haven’t gotten out to the indoor range to try it out. I’ve sighted the red dot in with a laser bore sight, and I’ve been going through sales to get glock mags so i can load them up before heading out. With the rust issue on the AKs Im going to have to find time to take them out to the outdoor range and function test them once I’m done cleaning them. The outdoor range is about an hour away and has weird hours so I rarely get a chance to go.

I picked up my Dagger at the PSA store in Columbia last week. I put 100 rounds through it there at the store using the mag that came with it. No problems.

Today, I put another 100 rounds through it, using the OEM Glock mags that I ordered. These were 5 x 17-round mags and 1 x 15-round. Each of the 17s with a Bloody Wheels sleeve on it.

One of those Glock 17 mags started to come out on its own 2 or 3 times just in the one time I used it. It would go in. I would pull on the base to make sure it was all the way in, then start shooting. 2 or 3 times in one magfull, I pulled the trigger and the gun just went click. Each time it was because the mag had dropped down some, so the slide didn’t strip a round off when it cycled.

Unfortunately, I did not mark which mag it was. I will have to make another range trip and shoot through all of them to see if I have the same problem again and mark it this time. If it happens again, I will take the sleeve off and keep shooting it, to make sure it’s not the sleeve causing a problem.

I had the mag issue on a couple of Dagger frames and slides I bought separately, using some 3rd party barrels that work great in my P80s. Used Glock 17 mags (OEM). My backordered Faxon barrels arrived and now I have no issues after about 100 rds per pistol with FMJ and JHP ammo. . This makes me very happy but I’ll consider it a non issue after a couple hundred more rounds. My other 2 Daggers have been 100% so far, one a complete from PSA, and another from separate slide/frame/barrel purchases (Dagger slide, frame, and Faxon barrel).

I bought a dagger and had to return it next day due to issues. Didn’t even get a chance to hit the range. I’m a loyal customer of PSA and am disappointed with my recent experience as it has been my only negative one. I am still not going to lose faith as they have been very prompt with any issue. I loved the feel of the dagger and the price. Don’t lose hope. Remember everyone started somewhere. I’m pretty sure that the first batch of Glocks and HK’s had issues that have been worked out throughout the years.

I have said from the beginning that I wanted to put 400-500 rounds through my Dagger before changing anything on it. Initially, that was just to give the stock trigger a chance to thoroughly break in - so I would know what improvements I was making versus what would have happened on their own.

But, now, I want to put those rounds through it not just to let the trigger break in. I also want to make sure there are no real problems with the gun before I change anything on it. If I am going to have to go back to PSA to try and get anything fixed or addressed, it will be a lot easier (I think) if I have not changed anything on the gun.

hell, i havent even shot my daggers yet, the one i built or the one i bought… so there’s that too. and thats been almost 8 months or more.

I bought mine in March but only have 100 rds through it. No issues.

hope they’ve fixed it. time will tell. if new owners with new guns keep appearing with reports though of this and other common problems (walking trigger pin, front sights loose, etc.) then you can’t logically just chalk it up to a fall back “oh those are guns that they haven’t shot - it’s all good now”. The “small %” of defective guns should have been well past the shipping pipeline by now and if it’s such a small # then you shouldn’t see a ton of owner complaints about it. I have numerous other PSA rifles and parts and never had any problem. Hope their QC on Daggers gets up to par. They aren’t the only $300 “G19-sized” 9mm pistol out there so it’s not like they’ve got a lock on the market.

This was an issue identified on a small batch of firearms produced months ago, it’s since been identified and fixed. We’ve seen no further issues with the thousands that have been built and sold since.

Thank you Anthony. I am glad to hear that it’s been fixed. PSA does great work getting affordable guns into Americans’ hands. As I said - your customer service people were great to deal with.

15 rd mag is on top, 27 rd mag on bottom. Note the cut outs are different and the 27 rd mag has an additional should on the side just below the follower. I have additional photos of the mags inserted in the lower if you need to see these. Thank you.

Sir,

More pics of the mags in the mag well. First one is the 15 rd in mag well. The second one is the 27rd mag in the mag well

@dsheinz this looks like something else, that geometry on those mags looks weird. I shot this over to Josiah and he is looking into that. The front sight being loose we can definitely get that fixed for you. Looks like CS got your info and its just in the que waiting to be processed.

Sir,

Any info or replies can be sent directly to me at (hid your email). Thank you.
