When I first saw those grips, my thought was OG green for an oldschool tiger stripe pattern.
They look good as is.

Hey guys give me your thoughts on this one. Delivered to your FFL for $599.99
Personally, I’m disappointed with kimber and the high probability of their barrels devloping rust.
Otherwise that kimber looks sexy!
Count me as Not a Kimber fan.
They built incredible weapons while they were Truly Kimber…but when they sold out and the Brand moved from West to East, something didn’t cross the peaks of the Rockies in the move.
I always glance at Kimbers. Hoping to find that original from Oregon. I pass on anything marked Yonkers NY or Ridgefield NJ. I have never experienced their products since relocating to Troy AL… just too many other choices for someone whom prefers to modify or upgrade stock brands.
My local dealer has it priced at $729 but they’re out of stock. I own several Kimbers and absolutely love them all. The LW is an excellent pistol and that’s a very good price. My FFL also charges $25 which I think is very fair.
Love the look and color scheme of it. IDK anything about Kimber thou. I always thought they were higher end stuff. But I’ve seen several people here at PSA say bad things about them which surprised me since I was under the impression that they’re good quality.
Case in point reguarding Kimber
Buddy was at his local FFL brick and mortar looking at one. Shop owner advised him not to buy. Long story short, shop owner just recived 7 Kimber 1911 pistols and was awaiting a return authorization. All 7 had rust on the outside of the barrels that arrived 2 days earlier.
Personally, I’ve heard of more fail to feed ball ammo with kimber 1911’s than any other maker over the last 10 years. QC issues with return for us to take a look at it type response. Between 2005-2010 or so the quality dropped off.
I love mine but, it is a rarity in the mix. Mine was bought new in 2001.
I have handled many other brands behind the gun counter and on the firing line. I’ve seen rusted barrels on kimbers only, with new on shelf stock. My overall takeaway for kimbers over the last 10 years is less happy customers than most of the major brands put together. Small rural town with lots of weekend 2nd home type visitors. Population 80,000 ish in winter, 120,000+ during summer.
YMMV as, my $0.02 input is worth less than that & you know what they say about free advice.
I’m all about their lacking on Quality Control from the move to NY but the completely lost
me with their Styling ideas…the Colors and etc.
I told another Poster here before, if I want something Green and Chrome, I’ll buy a 1957 Chevy Bel Aire …not a Handgun
for a kimber stainless LightWeight i would say thats a pretty good price on it.
that was a while back… most of thier barrels now are all stainless steel so they dont rust anymore. I was the same way you were until they made the change. i wouldnt buy them till they made that change. and the 2 i have are awesome. i had a stainless Steel II kimber but sold it cause i got the Gold Match II Stainless and replaced the Stainless Steel II with it. (better gun in the gold match) but even the stainless Steel II had a stainless barrel so it was a good gun too… on all the Kimbers i’ve owned I’ve not had any rust cause theyve all been more recent builds in the last 10 or so years since they changed to stainless barrels mostly. .
Heres my gold Match II
@GamecockOperator
So the FFL my budy shopped at had this issue 2-3 years back, all 7 had stainless barrels.
I know a few years back tops knives had some issues with carbon steel knives getting rust under the clear coat finish. Definitely an apples to ornages with stainless to carbon steel.
Some times weird stuff happens. I have followed some of the tops knives customer service resolutions. Not so much on Kimber…
Now that I’m thinkg about it:
Your more likely to hear complaints than compliments, one statistic I read was 10 times complaint to 1 compliment. Not sure with the validity of the numbers. My experience may be skewed as well.
I like the look of many kimber 1911’s vs a few from most other makers. I have no logical reason why.
I do appriciate your perspective GcO.
We only learn if we stretch beyond our comfort zone.
@AZ_Joe
yeah you’re correct about stretching our comfort zone and I appreciate you saying that about my perspective.
as for the carbon barrels swap to stainless, i could be wrong on how long ago they did start putting the stainless barrels in the majority if not all of their lines. In my situation, i have two of the high end of their guns, the Gold match stainless II and the Desert Warrior, both of which being the high end of ther lineups, would come with the stainless from the beginning. but say you want to buy just a simple stainless II or maybe even your Stainless LW there, might not have a stainless barrel. However i just researched it on Kimber’s home page, and it says the Kimber Stainless LW Arctic has a Stainless steel national match barrel. So you’re good there and it would not rust.
In reality, there is only really 1 or 2 more kimbers that i would like to own. one being the Kimber TLE II (with or without rail) and the Kimber Warrior SOC. Oh i forgot one more i did like, The Kimber Eclipse Custom… just looks cool with a dark stainless kinda look.
I bought a Kimber LW Shadow last year so this one is the same other than color.
I’m buying it and I’ll have 2 of the 3 LW models. I have a addiction to 1911s
I’m just not sure how the aluminum frame is going to hold up is all.
