I’ve searched the forums but it doesn’t seem like anyone has asked the question yet so here it is: Does anyone know if the PSA JAKL(5.56 or 300BO) will utilize a standard AR style barrel or does the gas piston system demand its own proprietary PSA barrel type?

PSA has not shared that info yet. Will probably have to wait on it to be available.

From what Ive read, the barrel is not removable.
I would imagine they used standard AR15/M4 profile barrels just for the productivity side of the house cuz it would be 1 less thing to design and produce. I’d really like to swap the barrel for a 14.5" later down the line.

I would be pretty surprised if the barrel wasn’t remobable and you had to buy a whole new upper or send it in for repair when your barrel needs replacing
Don’t be surprised. In almost every interview where the subject has come up they said it won’t be removable and that you should buy different Jakl uppers if you want more barrel options. That could have changed in the latest designs but I doubt it.

If that’s the case I will be thuroughly blown away. It just seems like such an obvious “DUH” thing to incorporate an AR style barrel. If it’s truly not removable/replaceable I’ll be truly disappointed

They use proprietary barrels but only thing is i don’t know if the coupling mount where the chamber is can be removed and placed on a different barrel. This design is very much AK inspired
Over on ARFCOM, PSA’s Josiah shared that The JAKL has an AR barrel with a proprietary barrel extension. Looking at my JAKL pistol, the barrel extension is a large, square unit.

Interesting. Did you disassemble yours/could you share pictures? I almost bought one for Christmas but we’re saving money to move so I haven’t been able to out hands on one yet. Thanks for your reply!

No. At this point, you can simply remove the brace and be in compliance without having to F1 it as an SBR.
Or say screw it, but only in minecraft, not in reality. You can do what you want in a videogame.

Thank you sir! I already lost the brace in a fishing accident, but will pit a SCAR stock on it once there are longer barrel upgrades available.
Lol it hasn’t been published yet, it’s still perfectly legal to buy any “pistol” with the brace. The ATF is pushing to make it law but it’s gonna get stopped just like the case with the bump stocks.

I saw a youtube video from Shotshow where the PSA Representative had a 16 inch JAKL. He showed a SCAR style stock and claimed other barrel lenths too. I hope the offer the stock and a barrel for sale, seperate from a complete gun.
