What’s the difference between nitride or phosphate? Is one better than the other?
David P on May 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Nitride is a harder finish and typically looks more like a blue finish. All of the kits I've built from PSA parts have this finish and I like it. Phosphate finishes are more utilitarian and are more "military" looking. They only protect against corrosion, but are easier to repair. My experience has been 1oo% positive with the nitride finish.
On kits like this, would the front sight interfere with optics added to supplement the included sights?
Chris A on May 19, 2018
BEST ANSWER: with most magnified scopes mounted correctly, the front post is just a small blur at the very bottom. it will barely be visible and no interference.
If I bought this along with a stripped lower, would I have everything I need to complete an AR? Or would I need any special tools to complete. Thanks!
camss on Jun 17, 2018
BEST ANSWER: You would have everything you need, but if you've never assembled a lower you should review some step by step instructions first. For the most part, the average toll box would contain the tools required, but it can be tricky due to the small parts and springs. Study an assembly guide and watch a video for reference. I've assembled several AR's, but I still have a spring get loose now and then. The kit, a lower, a magazine, and a sling is a complete AR-15. Good luck!
For anyone who purchased a matching Flat dark earth magazine, what brand/model did you buy? Did it match the other FDE furniture? From the photos on here, most of the magazines are lighter in color.
Scott P on Jun 19, 2018
BEST ANSWER: My gen 2 pmags match very well
I'm new to building ARs. If I bought this kit, will I have a complete AR? Or would I have to purchase other parts separately.
camss on Jun 15, 2018
BEST ANSWER: You will need a lower receiver and a few tools. Check the internet for videos about assembling AR's. The rest is provided in the kit.
what lower is recommended or this kit?
Matt G on Apr 28, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Any mil spec lower for 5.56 or 223 will work, commonly know as AR-15 stripped lowers. Many to choose from, like polymer, cast or forged. Any will work and you should be happy with the end results. Forged is the most costly, and I have not seen the need for the extra expense. Someday if I get involve in 3 gun competitions, maybe I will see the difference. But not for now.
What material is the hand guard and pistol grip made of ?
Tim I on Nov 10, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It’s a nylon Glass filled thermoplastic with impact modifier: PA630%GF IM. Very common for all these applications
Is the bore nitride finished or just the exterior?
Elliot W on Jun 17, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Both the bore and the exterior are nitride finished.
Does the upper come fully assembled?
Craig K on Jul 13, 2019
BEST ANSWER: As an upper, yes.
You just need to assemble the lower and pin to this upper.
These things are great value. Lots of quality, at a very competitive price point.
Can the forward sight be removed?
Nick N on Jul 20, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The front sight is also the gas block. You would need not only a new gas block, but a rail to mount a new sight on. Probably better off purchasing a flat top model and simply attaching a sight.
Round or triangle front hand guard plate?
Matt E on Jan 25, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Triangular
Does the fde color vary? Or is it just the lighting of the photos?
Hippyfarmer on Mar 6, 2019
BEST ANSWER: It is just the lighting in the photo. All parts match in color.
Is the barrel marked to caliber?
dennis p on Jun 23, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes. It's marked " .556 NATO 1:7 ".
Does this kit come with sling loops or are the separate?
Hippyfarmer on Mar 8, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Yes this kit does have the sling loops.
Just purchased this and wanted to know, does this have end plate sling mount? I want to pick one up but if it already comes with a sling mount on the stock or the end plate I won’t need to get another one.
David K on Aug 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: This kit comes with a standard endplate without a sling attachment.
When this kit is fully assembled using a standard lower, what is the overall length with the stock fully collapsed to its shortest position?
Ron L on Aug 4, 2019
BEST ANSWER: 33 Inches.
is the buffer 6065 or 7075 ? what is the difference between the freedom line and the classic line?
tj j on Apr 21, 2019
BEST ANSWER: This PSA offering is an incredibly valued Entry Level AR rifle kit.
Asking what aluminum alloy the buffer-tube made from is unrealistic on any entry level item.
PSA makes higher criteria rifle kits with hammer-forged barrels, chrome bores, and lots of 'operator' features, but the Freedom-line is not that.
Is the Magpul MBUS Rear Sight a Gen 1 or a Gen 2 model?
Peter C on Mar 5, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The MBUS rear and front site were Gen 2 on my kit but Hen 1 for my brothers kits bought a few weeks apart so I think it depends on the kit you get.
Would rather have the Magpul MBUS Rear Sight in FDE; will PSA accommodate the request?

Great kit for a quality, low-cost AR build.
There is NOTHING that I dislike about this kit. Put it together with a lower; shoots like a dream. Well made. Only one problem - the firing pin retaining pin can be tough to put back in during reassembly. The "legs" of the open end are opened too much. I had to have PSA send me a replacement pin - same problem; the only reason I took a star. Other than that, well done. I recommend this to anyone wanting to build a quality, low-cost AR.

Great Beginner Kit
It took 2 weeks to ship the kit but overall I love my build. I have a polymer lower on it now but I plan to put a metal one on it soon. Make sure before you shoot it for the first time that you oil it REALLY good because I didn’t and it was acting funky like the bolt was sticking and it wasn’t wanting to feed the bullets correctly
It took 2 weeks to ship the kit but overall I have been pleased with the build.

First AR from PSA
I finally decided to put an AR together after putting it off for quite some time. I ordered this rifle kit, and a FDE lower from 80%. It went together perfectly. I haven't broken it in yet and I expect it to run flawlessly! Shipping was pretty fast, the packaging was excellent, and the components are of an excellent quality. I look forward to ordering more items from PSA!

Can't go wrong with this one
This was my 2nd build. It shoots well for what it is. 1.5 MOA with Hornady black 55g.

A great starting point.
My first build kit. Great build kit. Performed flawlessly first day out with over 300 5.56/.223 rds. Also bought a cmmg .22 conversion bolt kit & it works great with this upper(only one failure to chamber out of a cheap bulk box of 500). Pretty accurate right out of the box. My friends are mad they spent $1k+ on something that I built myself for about half the price.
Put the build kit on an 80% lower & added the sig red dot.
