Redding die lock rings ensure the die is maintained at the correct depth during the reloading process. Featuring 7/8-14 TPI threads, they are compatible with most popular presses and dies. In all Redding dies, the lock ring incorporates a piece of bismuth positioned behind the set screw, which engages with the die threads as the set screw is tightened. This method, although more costly, is significantly more effective than using a simple brass screw, which is prone to stripping and becoming unusable. Redding employs a steel-on-steel configuration for enhanced strength, while a piece of lead is placed between the set screw and the die threads to act as a buffer, protecting the threads from damage and ensuring a secure lock-up.
