Is the only difference between the M&P Shield 2.0 and M2.0 the safety, or are there other differences? ?
Oldkc on May 4, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The shield is a single stack 9mm with a 7+1 capacity. The full size M&P 2.0 is a double stack 9mm with a 17+1 capacity. Both come in models with safety’s and models without. You can do more research regarding this different models in smith and Wessons website.

BEST ANSWER: Yes, the 2.0 supposedly has an improved trigger. I have not fired an older model so I don’t know the difference but I am very satisfied with the 2.0.

Does this have an ambi slide release?
Chris W on Jan 20, 2020
BEST ANSWER: No it does not. Can be a challenge for a lefty... takes a little to get used to.
Is the magazine release interchangeable? I am a lefty and unable to shoot 1.0 because I continually drop the mag.
andrew k on Feb 3, 2020
BEST ANSWER: I see the button area has a shield over the safety mechanism on the right side. when I press it on the right I can feel the safety button on the left side move a bit so it is connected. I would say a gunsmith could answer that question, but I believe you can switch the button over to the right side.
Can this be fitted with a crimson trace laser?
Rolltide on Jan 28, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Check the Surefire website for the Shield 2.0, personally, I would go with a Veridian.

Best 9mm Single stack for the $$$
I own two Shield 2.0's, both with the safety, one with laser one without. I have over 50 yrs shooting experience, USMC,Govt (DOD>DIA<DSE)and CCW holder(45yrs) and certified Trainer by NRA, two states and military. I know firearms and use many different ones every week so i am both familiar with them and proficient when I train. Thes firarms were the toast of the town when they came out and are now being eclipsed by the new SIG 365 and Springfield Hellcat because they hold more rounds. Other wise there is little difference that matters. Some people always want the newest and latest wether there is real merit in the firearm or not. I guess all the 1911 guys would disagree with the new is better,,,LOL, You should have the Shield model with the safety. it gives you options and options are good. if you don't want to use it, don't. See simple. But, if you carry appendix and like having a striker fired 9mm pointed at your femoral artery or other parts..be my guest, But then, you can use the additional safety that provides added protection from AD's and someone trying to grab your firearm, and is absolutely no problem to use if you train with it. Done. Fact, no argument is valid. These are fine as they come from the factory, both of mine have triggers that are in the 4lb 6 oz ranges...perfect for concealed carry. They are smooth on take up, have a define d wall, and break cleanly. You can shoot these very well with a bit of practice. There really is no need for an aftermarket trigger unless you like bragging rights. I prefer a hard ledge rear sight for one handed manipulation and a large dot tritium for up close and personal work. where speed matters most. The stock sights are Ok and will do the job, but my preference is for the others that I have on all my firearms so the sight picture is always the same. I use the extended 8rd mag, with no problems and a better grip. I have stippled the forward area of the frame for both my trigger finger and my support thumb. I have done that for years, and apparently some people are acting like it is a new thing..wrong. I use the laser model for the night time carry, it helps to aquire quicker under bad conditions, lighting etc. I have shot these many times with no FTF<FTE or slide failing to lock back. I use Hornady Critical Duty and the Shields seem to like it. I prefer the nose with the polymer for feeding reliability and better penetration. just my preference. At todays prices you can practically buy two Sield for the price of one of the others. I am not a S&W die hard, preferring to use Glock 19's for most work. However, if you want a single stack 9mm that is reliable, easy to shoot and is made by a quality company, the Shield is a good solid option.

What's not to love about the 2.0? I haven't upgraded to the APEX as of the time of this post but I'll eventually do it.
