Originally inspired by a request from Spyderco's South African distributor for a more affordable version of our iconic Civilian knife, the standard Matriarch 2 builds on that concept. It combines the aggressive blade shape and Reverse "S" edge profile of the Civilian with the lightweight handle construction from our popular Endura 4, delivering extreme cutting performance in a convenient, lightweight package. The latest iteration of the Matriarch 2 further raises the bar by incorporating an Emerson Opener, a small hook on the blade spine. This feature, developed by knifemaker Ernest Emerson and licensed to Spyderco, allows for lightning-fast deployment. As the knife is drawn from tip-up carry, the Emerson Opener catches on the pocket edge, automatically opening the blade. This design ensures completely ambidextrous operation. Additional features include a four-position clip for versatile carry options, a robust back lock mechanism for secure blade retention, skeletonized stainless steel liners for durability and a Bi-Directional-Textured fiberglass-reinforced-nylon handle for a secure grip in all conditions.
