Maxamet is an exceptionally hard high-speed powdered tool steel originally developed for the demanding rollers in Carpenter's steel mills. It exhibits properties that surpass traditional high-speed tool steels and approach those of cemented carbides, the ultra-hard materials used in machining other steels. Spyderco stands among a select few companies capable of mastering the specialized techniques required to machine, heat treat and grind this challenging material, resulting in reliable, high-performance knife blades. We proudly offer this capability in selected models crafted at our U.S. facility in Golden, Colorado. The knife's full-flat-ground PlainEdge blade maximizes Maxamet's characteristics, delivering an unparalleled blend of durability, low-friction cutting capability, edge retention and precision for intricate tasks. It resides within a handle adorned with dark gray textured G-10 scales and incorporates nested stainless steel liners that provide the robust foundation for its high-strength Compression Lock mechanism.
