The Delica 4 Lightweight takes on a captivating new look with a hand-dyed "zome" handle, inspired by the ancient Japanese art form focused on textile dyeing known as Zome (pronounced "zoh-may"). This craftsmanship, deeply rooted in Japanese history and culture, employs natural dyes sourced from plants, flowers and fruits to create intricate patterns on cloth. Spyderco's Zome knives represent a fusion of this traditional artistry with our lightweight models featuring injection-molded fiberglass-reinforced-nylon (FRN) handles. Each handle starts with a light base color and undergoes meticulous hand dyeing by skilled Japanese artisans. Using techniques reminiscent of traditional hiki-zome (brush dyeing), multiple colors of dye are carefully applied by hand, resulting in unique and distinctive patterns. These special dyes fully permeate the FRN, ensuring a permanent and vibrant finish. The Delica 4 Lightweight Zome Edition retains all the hallmark features of its lineage: a full-flat-ground VG-10 stainless steel blade, a robust back lock mechanism, skeletonized stainless steel liners and a versatile four-position pocket clip.
