The rifle is distinguished by its cold hammer-forged barrel, renowned for exceptional precision and it boasts Steyrs patented Mannox finish, offering unrivaled resistance to wear and corrosion on-the outer metal components. This specialized finish provides protection against the adverse effects of rain, moisture, sweat and blood. Steyrs SBS system includes a unique 3-position roller tang safety conveniently located behind the bolts rear. The SBS bolt incorporates four forward locking lugs, requiring a 60-degree rotation to unlock the bolt, along with multiple gas ports. An exclusive safety bushing enhances protection against unexpected chamber pressure and gas escape. Steyr has subjected this bushing to rigorous testing with high-pressure proof rounds up to 120,000 psi, demonstrating the rifles resilience without any damage. Adding to its innovative features, this model incorporates a 2-stage magazine release, allowing the safe closing of the bolt without chambering a round when the magazine is positioned at its lowest index, all without needing to remove the magazine.
