Vihtavuori N550 rifle powder was initially developed for the .30-06 Springfield and .308 Win calibers in the late 1990s. The N550 is ideally suited for many .30 Cal magnums with lighter bullets and is versatile across a broad range of bore sizes in various shooting disciplines. It is an excellent choice for .30-06 Springfield hunting rounds with heavier bullets, as well as for more powerful loads such as the 6.5x55mm Swedish and .308 Win, among others. The N550 is a tubular powder with symmetrical grain dimensions of 1mm in length and 1mm in diameter. Consistent with all powders in our N500 series, nitroglycerine is added to the traditional single-base powder to enhance energy content. The burning rate of N550 is comparable to that of the N150 rifle powder and falls within the medium range of our high-energy powders. It achieves higher velocity with equivalent pressure compared to the N100 series, without causing increased wear on the rifle.
