This 223 Rem cartridge is loaded with a 55 grain full metal jacket. Nothing unusual there. Nothing unusual under the bullet’s brass jacket, either – just a solid lead core that will not attract a magnet. The FMJ has a cannelure to prevent recoil from jerking it out of place, and is loaded to deliver the ~3,240 fps muzzle velocity characteristic of an M193 spec cartridge.
All in all, this is exactly the sort of 223 Rem most American shooters choose for target practice. It’s loaded with non-corrosive Boxer primers, as well as the shiny virgin brass that cycles well and handloads repeatedly.
