Barrel: A proprietary blend of Hammer forged chrome molly vanadium made by FN that is referred to as "Machine Gun Steel" by virtue of its use in FN's M249 and M240 weapons. The hammer forging process work hardens the steel, making it more durable. In addition, the chrome process for the bore allows for a lining almost twice as thick as a standard M16 for enhanced durability. Chambered in 5.56 NATO, with a 1:7 twist, M4 barrel extension, and a mid-length gas system. The special A2 light profile barrel allows for better balance and portability over the standard A2 profile and is Mil-spec phosphate coated. Barrel is High Pressure tested, and Magnetic Particle inspected, to ensure quality and dependability, and is finished off with a PSA 13.5" M-lok Billet Rail, .750" low-profile gas block, and a pinned and welded A2 flash hider. The pinning and welding is makes the flash hider a permanent part of the barrel which brings it to the legal length.

Upper: Forged 7075-T6 A3 AR upper is made to MIL-SPECS and hard coat anodized black for durability. Featuring machined T marks, and a mil-spec finish. These uppers are made for us right here in the USA by a mil-spec manufacturer.

BEST ANSWER: Right now.
Is this weaponโ€™s barrel 14.7โ€ made 16โ€ with the pinned and welded flash hider OR 14.7โ€ overall?
Michael J on Jun 5, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The actual barrel is 14.7" and when the flash hider is pinned/welded it brings it to the legal 16"
So, the gas block cannot be removed from the barrel, correct? Gas block ID vs Flash hider OD.
Glenn on Jun 18, 2018
BEST ANSWER: You can slide the gas block far enough down the barrel tho to clear the midlength gas tube from the barrel nut to take off the barrel
Can I get this with out the flash hide? I'd like to use it on a registered SBR lower with a suppressor.
Kyle E on Jun 4, 2018
BEST ANSWER: This item comes exactly as described. No changes, not options, no ifs, ands or buts. If you want a 14.7" barreled upper, go to the top of the page and click in AR-15 >Barreled Upper Assemblies and look for NON-pinned and welded uppers. You can even sort by 14.7" barrels.
Does this upper use a standard barrel nut?
Izaak K on Jun 18, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Proprietary barrel nut
14.7" .. can I put this on an AR pistol build?
V L on Aug 24, 2018
BEST ANSWER: You can, but this upper doesn't have to be on a pistol lower since the muzzle device is pinned and it brings the barrel to 16".
Does the upper come with the flash hider already pinned and welded to the barrel? I have seen some people saying that the flash hiders aren't pinned and welded by PSA.
Carson B on Jun 18, 2018
BEST ANSWER: They are both pinned and welded.
Can a suppressor be attached to this?
Mikael on Mar 19, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Nรถ you can not remove flash hider. If you wanted you can take to gunsmith and they can remove the flash hider and attach a fast attach system but the device would have to be pined and welded on permanent. There are several companies that make these devices. It allows attachments without using threads. But note the device that is threaded on will need to be welded to avoid NFA paperwork.
what kind of grouping at 100 yds you guys are getting?
Mario on Feb 6, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Groups with decent soft point ammunition are smaller than my 2moa red dot. I have no need for match ammunition myself but I am sure there is untapped potential given a more precise optic.
I have had this upper for a while with no problems but mine has the little plate between the halves of the rail where the hex screws clamp it in place. I understand that PSA can't use that plate anymore because its patented by someone else. Another PSA upper of mine had issues with the rail slipping forward when fired because there was no locking plate.
Before I buy another one if these I'd like to know how the slippage problem was addressed?
Doug B on Feb 3, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Mine has a standard cllamp on hand graud...Light Weight MLOK. It loosened up once when I first used it... I pushed it back, clamped a scope riser to the top, and lock tighten the screws.
Has not loosened up since....
This is by far my favorite PSA upper! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
Can I buy this with a different muzzle device pinned/welded?
Matthew B on Feb 1, 2019
BEST ANSWER: NO!!! PSA sells every item as you see it. What you see is what you get.
Can I install Magpol MBUS sights on this rail?
walt d on Aug 5, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Absolutely.
Will you off this with a key mod forend?
Lee W on Jul 25, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Probably not since it isn't 2012.

Excellent accuracy.
Very good price. I shot this upper alongside much more expensive rifles. The PSA CHF barrel shot as good or better that rifles more than double the cost. It held less than an inch 5 shot groups at 100 yards with good ammo.
Go ahead and get this and you won’t feel bad about abusing it since it’s so affordable. And you aren’t sacrificing quality.

A Few issues
Originally planned to base a higher end build around this, but now I’m hesitant to dump a bunch of money on it. Slapped it on a previous PSA lower build and had a few problems. The weld is like a blob. Not a functional issue, but aesthetically pretty bad especially this being what is essentially the top tier ar15 upper PSA offers. The holes for the take down pins are off requiring a punch and hammer to remove...and I mean you have to whack it. Had failures with Lancer mags which to be fair may or may not have anything to do with the upper, but did run in other builds. I’m a PSA fan and still hopeful I can get it running smoother.

I want another one!
High-quality upper. Fits nice and snug on PSA lower. I’ve owned many Ar’s over the years, but this one is my favorite. Definitely more-than worth the money. Buy it!

Great barrel!
I bought the upper for the FN barrel. The gas block isn’t dimpled or pinned. The flash hider is slightly crooked and the weld is ugly. The hand guard doesn’t have anti rotation tabs or a way so it won’t slide off when it gets hot. That being said the barrel is awesome and new all the negatives coming in.

Great Upper
Great upper and the weight feels very light overall (the lightest one I own now). The only reason I did not give 5 stars is I would've preferred the other lightweight handguard they offer (5165450410). Technically that was my fault for choosing incorrectly, but I wanted to see in person what this handguard looks like. The other handguards looks alot nicer in my opinion, but both feel good regardless.

Nice rifle but had a loose hand guard
An overall nice upper, the only problem is that the handguard started to work it’s way off the rifle on my first range trip. Took it home and tightened the hex screws, we’ll see if it holds at the next range trip I guess.

Looks great, feels great, shoots great.
The fit and finish are excellent in my opinion. I dont care about the visible welding on the bottom like others. This isnt meant to be a display gun. I love the FN marked barrel, Cerro Forge marked upper, and the light weight handguard. I paired this gun with PSA nickle boron BCG, a Spikes lower and ELPK, and CRT stock (all new parts).

I've only shot 350 rounds from this setup. But I was shooting unsupported; in light to heavy rain, and with cheap ammo and a new 3X fixed power scope. I wasnt super impressed with the accuracy at first. I sighted in at 100yrds and was getting about an 8" group. But again, crappy conditions and cheap 55gr ammo. I was however, hitting steel out to 400 yds (possibly 500 yds a few times but couldn't hear because of rain). I need to go out again and shoot at 100.

The only real issue I've noticed is some markings on the inside of the upper reciever. It looks like the anodizing has been rubbed off a little where the top of the BCG runs back and forth. That could be the PSA bolt carrier or the upper reciever being out of spec. It's not going to cause any problems but I haven't seem that from any other ARs. Overall, for the money spent on this it's a great value. Both FN and Cerro are military contractors (or sub-contractors).
