Virginia gun owners received an important legal update just days before the state’s proposed firearm restrictions were scheduled to take effect.
A judge issued a preliminary injunction blocking enforcement of the law while the underlying legal challenge continues.
What the Proposed Law Would Have Restricted
The law would have placed restrictions on activities involving certain commonly owned firearms and magazines, including:
- Sales
- Transfers
- Manufacturing
- Importation
The legal challenge argues that the affected firearms and magazines are commonly owned by law-abiding Americans and are protected by the Second Amendment.
Who Challenged the Law?
The lawsuit was supported by:
- Gun Owners of America
- Virginia Citizens Defense League
- John Crump
Their legal challenge resulted in the preliminary injunction being issued shortly before the law’s scheduled effective date.
What the Injunction Means for Virginia Customers
Because enforcement has been temporarily blocked, Palmetto State Armory will continue shipping eligible serialized items to Virginia while the injunction remains active.
This includes eligible products that PSA had previously stopped shipping because of the July 1 deadline.
Customers should understand that the injunction does not permanently overturn the law. It temporarily prevents enforcement while the case moves through the courts.
The Legal Fight Is Not Over
The Commonwealth of Virginia has indicated that it plans to appeal the ruling.
An appeals court could:
- Leave the injunction in place
- Modify the injunction
- Overturn the injunction
- Send the case back for additional proceedings
The final outcome of the lawsuit has not yet been determined.
PSA Will Continue Monitoring the Case
Palmetto State Armory will continue tracking the legal proceedings and adjusting its Virginia shipping policies as necessary.
Virginia customers should review current product eligibility, shipping information, and legal notices before placing an order, as the status of the injunction could change during the appeals process.
