The ATF Blackout FAQ: What You Need to Know - The PSA BLOG

What is the ATF blackout?

The ATF blackout is a temporary shutdown of the federal eForms system starting December 26, 2025 at midnight. During this time, new federal forms cannot be submitted.

Why is the eForms system shutting down?

The shutdown allows the ATF to process pending submissions and prepare system updates scheduled to take effect in January 2026.

Can new forms be submitted during the blackout?

No. New submissions cannot be made while the eForms system is offline.

What happens to forms submitted before the blackout?

Forms submitted before the shutdown remain in the system and may continue through processing during this period.

What if my form is not submitted before December 26?

Forms not submitted before the blackout can be submitted once the system reopens in January.

Does the blackout affect purchases or order preparation?

No. The blackout only affects federal form submissions. Purchasing silencers and order preparation continue as normal.

When is the eForms system expected to reopen?

The system is expected to reopen in early January 2026 under an updated platform.

I placed an order last weekend and had prints done this past Monday. I have not received them yet and O don’t think I will have it in by the deadline. Is there anything I need to do to have it go through in January or will it be automatically done. I also paid the tax stamp so will that be refunded as well?

No you will not be refunded. This has been in the making for awhile. You should have waited a few more weeks.

This is correct. (and unfortunate for guys like me who have over a dozen stamps!)

the way i understand it any submissions that's processed before Jan 1 will not be refunded. if you decided to pay for the tax stamp instead of wait a month or so, that money is gone.

How does one get the free tax stamp for a silencer? Also, which silencer has the most flash and sound suppression and how much will it cost?

Are the prices on silencers a result of advanced technology or is it mainly a result of Government over-reach that due to consumer demand has driven the cost to be more than the average weapon price regardless as the materials in the items are fairly inexpensive. Why aren't silencers' prices equivalent to the total engineering plus profit that produces them. If you could legally purchase oil filter silencers, for example, why the extra cost? Would an SOT be able to purchase an oil filter, modify it to fit the end of a barrel, and sell it for 5 times the price? I see an industry of corruption using draconian laws to justify over pricing. Like selling water for twenty dollars a bottle during a drought. Thank You.

Do not bother all of these are now completely illegal in California. Rest assured the Californian government will protect you 110%! There will be no need to defend yourself as we have laws that make crime illegal. We only need gender-neutral, non-binary, no-gmo, plastic straw & bag free hugs & environmentally-friendly / DEF-full rainbows to keep California the top revenue-genterating State in the Nation!

Seriously, EVERY question and statement on here shows how fucking stupid you are. Are you kidding. asking; "So when should I put my order in? The advertising says on or after January 1,2025" You literally typed the fucking answer out. And Ron; "In Nevada, they’re doing a way with a $200 tax stamp after January 1, 2026." First of all, the word is "away". Second of all, Nevada isn't doing away with the tax stamp, the ATF is dropping the fee. The ATF is NOT a Nevada state agency. My god, this nation is doomed with the education system churnning out this many idots.

I wish you dipshits would stop calling it a silencer, that is not what it is but what hollywood has convinced the government that it is what is is. You are part of the problem. It is a suppressor. Educate yourself please

I heard once the big beautiful bill goes into effect on 01.01.26 there will not be a tax fee for suppressors and the Supreme Court recently ruled that the tax form is unconditional without the fee since it would basically be a gun registry making suppressors purchasable without any paperwork.

Imma say this once. The Bill of Rights is legislation. Taxation of Rights is specifically unlawful, and enforcement of contradictory laws is also illegal. Making unconstitutional laws / laws to circumvent or alienate constitutional rule of law, is specifically illegal with clearly stated penalties. 18 U.S.C. 1918, 18 U.S.C. 242, 5 U.S.C. 3331-3333/7311, Murdock V Pennsylvania 319 U.S. 105 (1943). The NFA and GCA are both equally unlawful to enforce, anyone doing so is guilty of the penalties in the above legislation as well. "Shall not be infringed" is very straight forward legislation, not a suggestion to turn a blind eye to. Good luck if this somehow confuses anyone who speaks/reads English.

So if there is nolonger a tax, will there still be a need to fill out the form that was only supposed to be used to Track the tax? Because a registration is unconstitutional according to the courts.

For those curious, as of January 1st, 2026, there is no longer a $200 tax stamp for suppressor and other items considered an NFA item. It is on a federal level, so you no longer pay for a tax stamp in any state. You are still required to fill out the forms required, background check, and fingerprints for record sake. Once approved I believe your tax stamp is mailed to you and it must remain with said equipment.
