How to Add An Optic to your PSA Dagger

Hey guys, welcome to another quick tip by Palmetto State Armory. Today, we're going to show you how you can outfit your Dagger with an optic. So let's jump right in. So before we get into installing the optic onto the slide, there are a few things we need to do.

  1. First is going to be making sure that the slide is removed from the frame and we have a flat surface to work on. That's just going to make life a lot easier for us in the long run.
  2. Next, let's make sure we have the right slide for our purposes. Today we're going to be using the Vortex Venom red dot with a 6MOA dot. So we need to make sure that we have the doctor's cut slide.

This will fit in most Vortex optics out there that are designed for handguns. Now, if you're using a Trijicon RMR footprint, make sure you choose the RMR cut, check out the description below. We'll have a brief description of all the optics that we know will fit each slide.

Now let's get this optic mounted. In front of me is everything you'll receive with your side, regardless of whether you get the doctor's cut or the RMR cut.

Mounting the Optic

The first step is going to be identifying the correct screw set. With this being a Vortex Venom, we're going to be using part number four. So we're going to go ahead and isolate those screws from the rest so that way we don't confuse them. Next, we're going to make sure that we line up the optic correctly onto the slide. Using these two little posts, we're going to line them up on the front holes on the optic. We'll set the optic down on the slide, and now we're ready to get the screws in place. It doesn't matter which side you start with, just to make sure that you don't tighten them down all the way. We'll get the first screw started making sure threads line up correctly. We'll get the second one in.

Before we tighten it down all the way, we'll just give it a double check just to make sure nothing shifted. And everything's still in place. Everything still looks good. So now we can tighten it down. One thing you can do, if you want is to add a little bit of thread locker to these screws. Remember a little bit goes a long way, and you don't want to use any type of thread locker that will require heat to remove it.

PSA Dagger Assembly & Inspection

Now that we've got the optic on, let's get the whole thing back together and inspect our work. Now let's cover a few final things while this is going back together.

Number 1, while you're doing this, this is a great opportunity to go ahead and swap out a few components on your firearm.

Number one is going to be the barrel. It's really easy to swap these out and if you're going to be using a suppressor or just want a more aggressive-looking profile for the firearm. A threaded barrel is a great way to go, as well if you're going to be using an optic, you want to make sure that you have suppressor height sites if you want to be able to maintain the use of your iron sights. So we'll swap these out later on and we'll show you how to do that.

Last but not least, we want to make sure that we covered the slides again. It's important to remember that depending on the optic you choose, you're going to need to get the corresponding slide.

  1. So remember if you're going to be using a Vortex type optic that uses a doctor's cut. You want to get a doctor's cut slide.
  2. If you're going to be using a Trijicon, you want to make sure that you get the RMR cut slide

For a full description, check out below, and we'll have a list of all the optics that we know work with these particular slides.

There are no such adapters and I looked and searched. Buy a Vortex Venom. Geoff Who wants others to learn from his mistakes.

Trijicon and truglo make such an adapter. Additionally primary arms makes a nice docter optic that should work but doesn't. I wish psa or primary arms would slightly modify their cut so it would work.

I went with a Trijicon base plate. With a little work it fits fine. I'm thinking it's the RM37.

I mounted the Vortex Venom, successfully following the instructions and using the screws provided in the slide package. Geoff Who notes the hardest part was getting the battery cap back on with the battery.

I have a Doctors cut slide and recently ordered the Sightmark Mini Shot M-Spec as it was stated to fit this slide. However it does not. I am not sure if it is a problem with the sight or the slide. But the footprint is just bit off. Seems to be a slide problem.

I own two (2) PSA Daggers. One has the Doctor (er) cut. The plate that shipped with one of my PSA slides has curved edges (ie Venom) footprint. This will be my first red dot. Has anyone out there had any experience mounting the ADE RD#-006,009,012,013 or the Vector Optics 1X20X28 6MOA SCRD-40 on the same PSA firearm that I mention above. Thank You for any help that you can offer.

I bought one of the truglo trutec micro open dots and it does not fit my rmr cut slide. Anybody have any idea what adapter plate I would need? I thought it would be compatible with the rmr slides but it's more narrow than the holes on the slide.

READ THIS: There are 2 different cuts. One cut is the doctor. The other cut is an RMR. If you buy a Dagger with the RMR cut there is a certain set of optics that work with this. If you buy a Dagger with the Doctor cut it is a totally different list and the two lists are not interchangeable with an adapter. Lists of acceptable optics with Doctor OR RMR cut can be found in the link below. https://palmettostatearmory.com/blog/how-to-add-an-optic-to-your-psa-dagger-quick-tip.html#am-comment-form-3441
